50,000 words is a lot of words to do in one month. Will I be able to meet my goal every day? Will I be able to write every day? What happens if I don't meet my goal? I can't handle all that pressure.
But I hear from other writers if you outline, do a character sketch, and plot out your writing project it makes writing a whole lot easier. So every year I tell myself to take this great idea and take the time and plot it out. But just like this year I still haven't plotted, outlined, or even done a character sketch. I still haven't taken the time to write down an idea. NaNo is less than a week away. So the pressure is on.
Is NaNo productive? I think so. Even though I might not meet my daily goals or even reach 50,000 words by the end of the month at least I have a start of a story that I will go back to and plot out and revise. Also NaNo helps me discipline myself to write everyday.
Right now I have a lot of writing project going on. So I use NaNo as a way to free write which pulls me away from doing revisions all the time. Free writing opens my mind to other thoughts and ideas. Then when I go back to revising a story my mind is open to what I might have missed before.
So Nov. is going to be a busy month, but I think an exciting month to see what characters will pop out of my mind and what story they have to tell me.
Keep writing and reading.
